Glow Plug questions
Trying to get answers or opinions regarding how long after the glow plug light goes off before cranking. I've read somewhere to let it cycle through but not fully understanding what that means. I understand weather related but I'm in Louisiana and not needing to go a couple cycles to warm the glow plugs. Just seeing what everyone's input is on how long they wait after the light goes off before cranking. Also does it affect battery life waiting too long after glow plug light goes off. Thanks for any help.

The Cummins ISB engines in the Ram pickups don't pre-heat with glow plugs but have a twelve volt heater in the intake plenum. I have heard it said three ways, one school of thought says it can be started any time whether the WTS ( wait to start) light is still lit, or when the light goes off, or after the volt meter comes back up. Some Cummins owners in the warm south unplug or completely delete the grid heater, because it isn't needed to start in a warm climate. Here in Colorado, if my truck is stone cold on a winter day I will wait a few seconds after the light goes out to let the grid heater complete it's warming cycle before startup, but if it is warm from previous driving I will let the light go out before cranking.
