Default Help with headlight bulb replacement!!!!!

Hey guys how's it going? Im new to the forum as well as the 4th gen dodges. I bought some silver star bright headlight bulbs but couldn't figure out how to get the stock bulb out. Do you have to take the whole light off the truck? And if so dost that require me to take my grill off too? Also any pics of job and has anybody used these bulbs and did you like them? Thanks

Do you have the owner's manual? Should have instructions in there. I don’t know about a forth gen, but on my 01 the bulb can be replaced without removing the housing, gotta squeeze past some obstacles, or remove 'em.

Yes the whole assembly has to come out, but not the grill. Its an easy task, there is a panel under each front fender with a nut to remove, then the rest just pulls off. It is all explained in your owners manual as well.

BTW the Silverstars will not stand up to offroad use and will burn out in half the time on road...they are brighter and I like them but they burn out quickly. I have had better luck with the PIAA bulbs but none have lasted as long as the stock bulbs

Yeah, the manuals are generally organized in the goofiest way possible. Given enough time and patients, so far I've been able to find most things I look for, but it often takes a while. When I get a new (to me) vehicle, I always pick up a Haynes or Chiltons service manual, they have most routine maintainance information that I want, organized in a sensible manner.

Ya I just haven't had the time to pick one up. But update on headlights for the 2012 2500 there is 3 bolts on the head light one behind the fender under the flap and 1 just under the hood and one behind the grill at the bottom, u have to take the grill off to pull the headlight out because you must pull the headlight assy towards the grill to pull the lil tab out of its hole. Kind of a pita but gotta be done.

My apologies, I thought it was the same as the 2008...

Just a thought but they should make the engineer that designed that change headlights for a year and they would probably start thinking about what they are putting into these trucks.

There's a slide clib behind a small panel inside the wheel well, I had to remove my grill to get the front bolt that holds the assembly in, I replace the assembly with a spec-d setup, go to their website, they have a PDF download that shows you how to get to everything. Didnt see any other way to get to bulbs without removal of assembly.

And they should make big truck engineers change oil in truckstops a few times a year. The new Cummins is a major pain and the DD15 is a joke.
