Default alt went out

my alt went bad. i got a lighting bolt. i replaced it today and started it up. i had to hook the smarty up to clear the code. everything good now. i was wondering if somebody didnt have a tuner to clear codes if the check engine light would ever go off.

I would think that after a few key cycles the engine light would go off if the system was functioning normally again. Just like running with the EGR unplugged and then plugging it back in for a dealer visit or inspection sticker.

maybe so. i dont think the egr unplugged throws a lighting bolt does it. i am wondering if a hard code will go off after you fix the problem.

egr doesn't throw the lightning bolt, only the engine light. I had the lightning bolt come on once for some random battery issue. (dont know what the code was, but once it came on my cruise didnt work anymore) That code I had reset itself. All I had to do was cycle the key. I cant remember if I used the smarty to reset or not. (In other words, my comments here are useless....)
