Opinion on salvage titled 6.7.
I've got an opportunity to pick up an 07.5 6.7, 3500, SRW, quad cab, short bed, Big Horn, 4x4, that has a salvage title. The truck came from Hawaii. It suffered passenger side damage when it was side swiped. I've seen the photographs of the damage and it really didn't seem bad enough to salvage, but it was. I'm led to believe that Hawaii salvages vehicles that would typically be repaired here on the mainland ... anyone know anything about this?
Anyway, the truck appears to be in excellent condition and comes with a six month warranty. It only had 49K on it and is selling for $25K. Do you think this is worth buying or should I walk away? I have the VIN number, if there is a way to research the salvage title further.

you can use the vin to find out what damage was done to make it a salvage title. i have purchased a few with them, if they are done right they are every bit as good as any other truck on the road. but if they are done wrong they all end up being piles! i say take it to someone that knows what they are looking at and have it inspected, then if you want it get it . don't be too afraid of the title other than resale value will not be so good on it latter

if your in HI it will cost to much to fix he vehicle. Vehicles are considered totaled in HI with less damage because parts cost more, shipping and lack of local replacements off same vehicle. If it was brought stateside to an auction it was because there is enough wiggle room between HI total and mainland repair cost. Profit margin on these vehicles is minimal as some of the profit gets ate at auction. If ya have the free time and patience they can be worth something, but it would be hard to make a living doing it.

I have a 2008 6.7 quad cab that will have a rebuilt engine and has a good title never been salvaged and I dont think a bank can loan 25k to buy salvaged. My truck is for sale just look at my signature. It will have to be rebuilt to spec by a lic rebuilder to get a rebuilt title before it can go on the street and be inspected by the state. I have access to the same kind of trucks you are talking about if you are interested

Okay, maybe I didn't clearly explain what I'm doing. The vehicle has been repaired and looks to be in excellent condition. Here are a couple of pics of the vehicle, before and after (below). The vehicle was purchased directly from Hawaii by the guy who repaired it and has it for sale. He said he's done hundreds of them over the years. The dealer is asking $25,900 for the vehicle.
Now, what do you think?
