I have a 2007 cummins that makes at least a quart if not more between oil cahnges. I stopped putting 12 quarts and now only put in ten so as not to overfill the crankcase. I have 75000 mi. and computer says I have to clean the
E G R valve , cooler , and replace the filter...Is there a website that can give me a visual on that

 

when you do the deletes they stop making oil. the guys that get more good road running dont make oil as bad.

When I was Service Manager for a large equipment rental fleet, we did scheduled oil analysis at every oil change on all equipment. We ran Chevron Delo 400, Shell Rotella, and Mobile Delvac (whichever had the better bulk price) and gathered absolutely no difference in any sample results.

 

I plan to get oil analized on next oil change. It will be good to know how much life is left in it. Big Earl

 

A word on getting your oil analyzed for determining engine life:
It will only establish a wear pattern after several samples are analyzed. Unless there is a major problem about to occur, the sample won't tell you how much life is left in your engine, only how much wear is happening on how you use your engine.

 

Maybe I said it wrong. Getting the oil analyzed won't it tell me how much life is left in the oil. ex. changing @ 7500 it may tell me I can go to 10,000

I thought about that but then again, I have seen people put over 100,000 miles on a new truck within a year. Yes, that is a good idea to see how long you can go between services, and even to sample it every other change will keep you updated as to a leak, drawing dirt in the air intake, or antifreeze, fuel, condensation, or other contaminants as well as different metals suspended in the oil that would indicate trouble. $12 is not much money for the reassurance.
