I beleive the way to retrieve codes is to- Turn the key on and off 3 times and end with the key on... the panel will display ------- for a moment or display a code, and then it will say DOnE.

That is one way, or if theres an AutoZone or any other chain style parts house they will read the codes for you and tell you what they are. They just won't clear them for liability reasons.

Ite guys i just checked my truck computer, i am getting a P0489 code. anybody know what it means.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

ok so i been on google and i found out that a P0489 comes up EGR-Control Circuit Low. WTF does that mean? will it do any damage to my engine? can i just unplug the EGR without doing the DPF delete or will that just F&^$ other stuff up.

Yes you can unplug the egr the plug on the drivers side a top of the intake horn only unplug that. The egr is doing more damage to your engine than you can imagine

Do you have mods on your truck? Why not let the dealer fix it since I'm assuming its under warranty? If its not or you don't care spend the money get a programmer and remove the dpf and egr and forget about it.

well that is my plan. i want to get the smarty, dpf delete and an egr delete. i have 42000 miles on my truck. it is still under the 100,000 mile warranty but heres the deal ima have to pay to get it fixed cuz apparently there is a filter that is supposed to be replace in the egr which is like 150 bucks. as far as the mods go i am short on cash as of now so that will have to wait.

Theres not a filter in the egr theres a ccv filter which should cost around 25$ and take maybe 15 min to change it the top of the valve cover over head will say service required at around 60k thats what it's for key on press brake 2 times and fuel pedal 2 times in 10 sec turns that message off the over head
