Remote Start.
Well the holidays are on, and as always my dad walks outside every morning to start his truck and runs back inside to wait for it to warm up.. That gave me a great gift idea, how much would a remote start kit cost and how hard would it be to install?

Don't forget that you have to interfere and to bypass the Vehicle Theft system. You really can mess up some things.
You need the remote unit and the special model fitting bypass unit.
Viper has some good ones with an outstanding range.
Idle isn't good for your engine anyway. Think about a real engine heater- thats real cool stuff!

im not sure but all the people that i know that have automotive wiring experince say not to do it because it looks unprofessional and down the road can lead to problems if not done by somone who know exactly what their doing. plus since its a diesel you probably have to do something with the glowplug system. doesnt sound fun. and imagine if you accendentally cut the wrong wire. time for a new wiring harness

It isn't that hard, but:
1) You need good solder and iron skills.
Every connection which interferes with your truck has to be bulletproof. Heat shrink tube is a must.
2) You need the factory Service manual with the complete wiring.
You have to understand the wiring layout.
If you are able to say two times: Yes, I can do that- go ahead.
actually wiring a Diesel is the same as a gasser with the addition of the wait-to-start wire.
If it is manual truck stay away from a remote start. I know there are kits available for manuals, but a Diesel has an unbelievable torque and if it runs accidently you won't get away with a small crash.
If it is an auto go ahead. Make sure you take your time to determine every wire. Don't forget you interfere with the truck engine- it can be dangerous and/or expensive!
It has nothing in common with wiring a car stereo or wiring a trailer. Currents applied in a remote start are very small. It is really important to know where to apply because you can fry the integrated circuits real quick.
That isn't funny because usually you have to change the complete system- they are freakin' expensive.
Think twice about it.
The wiring itself is a 2. Finding the right connections with the appropriate signals an 11.5!
