Is there much gain doing an electric fan mod?

I agree that is the purpose of the fan clutch, but even on high idle the engine speed may not be sufficient to supply the required CFM to maintain a suitable head pressure. GM may test their vehicles in Death Valley, but they test new vehicles. In general, the newest (stock) 6.5L driving around would be ~13 years old.

That said, I will not be putting electric fans on anything I drive. If I need more airflow, I'll do the fancy Duramax fan conversion, but my main reason is that no vehicle I own has an operational A/C system! And yes, it gets plenty hot in KC, was 105 yesterday. Boo.

The only reason I started this thread was this reason:

Jeep wrangler 4 cylinder.
I put a big Lincoln Mark IV electric fan with a delta 2 speed temperature controller/relays.
It had less drag on the engine and my 4 cylinder benefited from this mod. But it is a 4 cylinider and 5-10hp gain on it is 5% + gain. When compared to a larger engine 5-10 hp gain is nothing. Nor is the strain a strain to a larger engine.

It makes sense to me that an electric fan mod on a larger engine really doesn't make a difference and you could not find a fan big enough to cool it better than a mechanical. Another factor is the drain on the batteries and charging system. There is already a HUGE amount of discharge used on a diesel when starting let alone while running a electric fan. I have orbital batteries and it is still hard on them.

One other reason is: I don't want to get stranded if it should burn out.

Therefore this idea of an electric fan on this application has proven to be more cons than pros.

You cant compair a gas 4 cyl engine to a diesel 8 cyl engine. It is like compairing apples to oranges.
Yes electric fans have a benifit on gassers, but not on diesels. RPMs of the engines differ too much, just as the heat generated from a diesel burn at a heavy load, vs a gasser at a heavy load. You just dont have the same differences to compair

Did you read my entire post? I will quote my self:

"It makes sense to me"

I just threw the question out there. The thread did not start as a debate. A mere question that got answered. Sorry for mixing up the apples and oranges. I will try not to stick a banana in your tailpipe the next time I post

I have just put a Hayden 2886 spin on clutch & a 9 blade steel fan on mine, it pulls more air at idle than any elec fan I have ever seen, it is for a Kodiak truck and is stronger than the Hayden's for our trucks, it is a hard pulling fan clutch and I will never use anything else. It unlocks when moving down the road and when the temps creep up and it locks, it locks at near 100 %, more than the others do.
