jus depends how much power you want out of it you can get a lot of cheap horsepower out of a cummins but you can only push it so far with out head studs and the rings around the cylinders. They'll run a long time if you dont hop them up a ton. Ik a shop in muncie that has one they pull there pullin truck with it has 947k on it and it doesn't smoke and still gets 18mpg.

unless you really want to set aside 5-7K for a brand new built 18:1 comp ratio 6.5 listen here. rebuild the engine with stock comp ratio and reman parts but make sure there quality. 4 inch exhaust with 3 inch downpipe and bigger crossover pipe and walbro lift pump. marine or high pop injectors which should all be bosch and arp headstuds.

GL4 chip with programming to eliminate the egr. a vin f intake should be bought also. then top it all of with a A Team Turbo. and of course get a EGT, Boost, Tranny temp, and fuel pressure guage to keep tabs on your brand new engine. after doing all this it will seem like a new truck guranteed

Hey man,

Man dont feel bad about what was said, the guys are right. I have spent countless amounts of money to get my 6.5 strait. Well there is always that extar $1,000 that you need, it always ends up that way. Just get your engine running and save that money for more reliable engine, I know its been said and done. Get a nice Dodge Cummins, and you dont have to spent $35,000 on a new one. I was talking to my mechanic about engines, and he told me he had seen cummins with over million miles. He said that the truck was about to fall apart, but the engine still going. Good luck.

Why mess with the pistons? Put some 100hp injectors and a hx35.
