Default 6.5 rebuild ideas

i have been thinking about rebuilding the engine in my 94 for awhile since it started that oil leak. Plus it had some pretty good blow-by. What would yall suggest as far as a good way to go for a rebuild. Im want to tweak it a lil a make some horsepower so i want to build it strong. Plus i need something to tinker with . any ideas?

TIA
Erskine

Cut those pistons down to 18:1 compression so you can run more boost safer and make sure to use ARP headstuds.

yeah i was thinking lower comperssion. i was thinking of runnin a turbo simial to the one off my dodge also my plan includes a intercooler somehow. definatly ARP with out a doubt. another question for those that have torn these down is it true that #7 & 8 are often not the same bore as the others.

So you just want to do this because? Let me tell you its a ton of work and a ton of money! I am in the middle of a build right now, and i didnt even tear the bottom end apart. Ive sunk prolly about 2k into this engine and its still built stock, except for the arp headstuds. From what ive heard its getting harder to come across the mahle 18-1 compression pistons. It costs a lot of money to go that route! I know a guy that has done it. The pistons in each hole is the same, i just replace a burnt one in mine. Who told you they were different? A lot of thought has to go into it. Most 6.5's have blowby, its not the end of the world. Even fairly rebuilt ones have it. Its common, even if you have a lot these engines still go for a long time. You really dont need an intercooler unless you live in a very hot climate. Remember intercoolers are worthless when you are sitting. How many miles does your engine have? I would just tm it, chip it, and maybe a more efficient turbo.

I'd like to get an intercooler later on in case I pull somethin with it, but i'd really lyk to get it chipped out and get a guage set.

I think it'd be cheaper to have your old pistons cut down instead of buyin new ones to get the lower compression. You'd definitley need that chip the marine injectors and a heavy duty lift pump to get enough fuel to it if you put any more boost through it. If you had an intercooler and methanol injection also that would be one sweet six five if it held together. If I was gonna spend that much money on a motor I'd jus buy a cummins and hop it up and make 2 or 3 times the power and drop it in the truck. Thats what i'm gonna do in tech school while i'm in the high performance class.

i know i was thing about possibly going with cummins but some thing in me kinda wants to see how far i really can push the 6.5 and keep it relaible. and maybe if i can find a good cheap cummins i still might. plus the cost of just building and buying all the lil stuff to put a cummins in there kinda out weighs a 6.5 rebuild.

THe pistons have a special coating on the top of them, if you have ever seen one it is like a black center with a metal ring around it. (The colors make it look like that). I just ook one out of my new engine since it was burnt and had a guy send me a used one, he grinded it down!! The protective layer was chewed off, so i would have had 7 cyls. with good compression, and 1 with less. I now use it as a paperweight... I wouldnt shave them....

If i had a lot of money i would put a cummins in mine, but its just not practical. THen your truck turns into custom. And for a daily driver a custom truck isnt as reliable as something from the factory, within reason. If your a fabricator that will help you even more. But sadly im not....
