Default Time To Bomb The Tool Truck

Well I'm Tired of getting 7.5 miles to the gallon and slowing to 50mph on hills. I know NOTHING about 6.5's so keep that in mind.

Here is what we are working with... 97 Chevy P30 Step Van with a 6.5 Non-Turbo Diesel. I don't even know if its electronic control or mechanical.

All I'm looking to do is gain a little bit of grunt. Don't need to be rolling coal all over the place as cool as it would be. Thanks guys and go easy on a poor Cummins boy.

well considering its a non turbo your not going to be able to do much. the basic exhuast system will give it more power. you could go out and buy a intake and turbo for 800 bucks but if its electronic injection you need a computer off a turbo. if its mechanical which i doubt because theres a ton of wires under the hood you can turn the pump up. but by 94 i know all pickups were electronic so i dont know about vans with no turbo. you could rig up a custom water/meth system that will give you more power. or a big shot of nitrous

Has a 3" exhaust. No room for a turbo and not a whole lot of wores on the engine. There are tons under the hood but there is alot of "other" stuff on this truck. I also know that the computer under the dash is for the tranny only. No computer for the engine inside the truck that I have found.

its probably a mechanical injection then. you should be able to turn up the pump but only about a 1/8 of a turn. more than that and you risk a meltdown. try this place for a definite answer Diesel Place - Duramax Diesel Discussion Forums

Place is old news; many of us left it for a good reason it's a AutoForums for profit center site.

Bobby I didn't forget you, pop the air cleaner off and let us have a look at what is under it, some of those later year "box trucks" did have DS4 electrronic IPs on them, it could be turboed, but not sure if the standard side mount turbo will stuff in there, I talked to Bill Heath and he suggested you call Bennie at Avant Salvage Avant Salvage possibly a center mount turbo off a H1 would work, they are a little slow on the call back so you may have to bug them some to get an answer.

Do you know what gears are in the rear end, have you opened the exhaust any?
