Turbo choice and a possible Injection Pump upgrade
Hello all,
I'm considering buying a '84-'86 Military M1009 (1-1/4 ton Pickup) or M1008 (Blazer) when I return from my current deployment because while I want a diesel truck, I don't have 10 grand or more to buy a Cummins. Therefore, I want to go at this armed with the knowledge to make this 6.2 a reliable and slightly more powerful (I'm not expecting 400 horses, I know better than that). First, has anyone tried adapting a Bosch P7100 from the Cummins onto one of these? I hear the Stanadyne DB2's aren't all that great and can be expensive to rebuild and have little to no performance potential whereas the P-Pump is the polar opposite. Second, the Banks Turbos seem to be hard to get ahold of, so I would consider a Cummins sourced HX-series unit. I've seen people raving about how great these work but I haven't seen anyone post up any dyno numbers to see just what kind of power levels they can achieve. Any comparisons between the Banks Sidewinder, HX35, and HX40 would also be helpful. I also want to add an intercooler even though I've heard you don't need one because most turbos on these won't push over 10 lbs., but, I also want to keep my engine cool and keep the EGTs low.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
