You will want to make it correctly so you do not pull the starter funny and create an isue you do not have now.
Plenty of people have made them out of angle iron. As long as your holes are in the correct places there is absolutely no issues

burnhedge I have made that bracket with angle iron for a 84 CUCV works great I mocked it up with a piece of thin cardboard to get it right on the first try

Thanks. Luckily I was a able to find a picture of a guy holding a tape measure up to a stock bracket. So it made it easy to get the size right the first time. I was glad I didn't have to wait 4 days and pay 15 bucks for a 2 cent piece of steel.
