What's your power goal and what's your budget? Do you need to bore? Are your cylinders messed up? Bore size wont get you much in these things. When we want more power we just add more air/fuel.

Need to know what the truck is going to be used for, and any daily driver duties it might need to do, as well as your budget though... we can put together a good list for you. Power goals?

thanks for the replys, son and I thought we would put together a reasonable effort on a rebuild . possibly in stages but best shot on engine parts first.goal would be to not blow up first time if we entered a truck pull.thought 500 ish to 6oo on hp but we realize hp costs .truck not daily driver and dose need to run on road ,already have banks cooler /intake /sct /fuel spring,

500hp and a 600hp build are two very different builds on a 6.0, and a big cost difference. Mostly because 600 is going to need a built transmission, and 500 wont.

Does the engine need a serious rebuild now? What shape is it in now?

You could enter a truck pull now and not "blow up" the only thing you risk is blowing headgaskets. I've done that several times, always been able to get the truck home.

ARP's and a good set of clean/flat heads will be the key to this build.

So it's not a DD, but it does need to be able to drive on the road, got it.

Do you have anything for gauges right now? A coolant filter should go on that list, as well as an EGR delete, and an oil cooler rebuild. Your list is a good start though. We can help put together an injector/turbo combo once you nail down what you want for power a little closer. Does the truck ever have to tow?

I know Mdub is making serious power. I make and regularly run on about 550 RWHP. AND I tow on a regular basis. 8-12k pounds. I am making this with minor engine work and a whole lot of good tuning. Start with a flat head and good studs, then follow it with a good cooling system and the best tuning ( see INNOVATIVE ) and an EGR delete and you have a solid base for 5-700 HP Hey Dub can I get some input here.....

What would you like input on. If you're making 550hp, you're farther ahead then me. I have the knowledge to build one, just not the budget. I'm probably sitting at a lowly 430rwhp. Basically just a tuner is all I've got now. Planning on pulling the cab early November for studs again/gaskets etc... all updates. Then in the spring hopefully build it up. Finally just got another car for a DD now so I can focus on the truck now and take it down for a day or two without having to worry about driving it. Should make it quite a bit easier.

My daily setting is about 550RWHP and about 775 TQ. I have yet to upgrade the turbo, redo the exhaust to 7". and a few interior of the engine upgrades. I want to at least equal a friend of mine who makes just about 1600 RWHP and 2100 TQ on a 2001 6.6 duramax.

Your input is awesome you really have the knowledge base down pat and thats the key when messing with diesel engines. its not like gas its not forgiving if you destroy something by being an idiot or completely without knowledge of what your doing.

What are your plans for your engine. what type of tranny mods are you looking at? Dont forget the tranny...... LOL

550 and 775? Did you verify this on a dyno? Those sound off. I did the same torque at only low 400 HP. I haven't seen a single person EVER put down 550 on a stock turbo either.

Who is your friend making 1600rwhp on a duramax? Only a couple in the world have done that and I can probably name most of them. That's not exactly daily driver territory. That's more dedicated puller. No one has ever had that number with a 6.0 either. The highest I've seen proven is Shaun Ellertons crew cab which put down a hair over 1200rwhp calculated using track times and truck weight.

As for my engine, keeping it relatively sane for the time being as I still use it to tow my camper. Going to do ARP studs, OEM gaskets, all the Ford updates, probably build my own modified intake manifold (Can't see spending $1200 on one when I can do it) and a small injector and turbo upgrade. Probably go with a 175/75 and a MTW stage 3 or 3 turbo eventually. In the short run, stock injectors and a MTW stage 1 which is in the works now. I should be low to mid 500's with the stage 3 and the 175's, not plannning on doing anything to the transmission other than a GoGo direct solenoid (sitting on my table now, I know Karl, I haven't put it in yet...) and probably upgrade to the 6.4 pan and filter setup for better filtration in the trans.

Other than that, it's about making it rock solid. I just want it to hold together so I can beat on it at 500hp. Not looking to set the world on fire. At some point, I'd like to find a regular cab 2x4 6.0 and make it a short box and turn that sucker up.

My numbers arent Dyno proven just mathmatecally worked out based on known facts. Your plans sound real nice. I would like to have a bulletproof truck for DD duties and a second made insane. I have been working on this trucks power TQ for towing and trying to work in fuel econ as well. the main bulk of the HP and TQ is all credit to Innovative. a small bit comes from other mods maybe 100-150 but im not sure. Peirce is my buddy with the Max and yes its a trailer queen AKA Dedicated Puller but he does cruise it arond from time to time. He has driven her accross country before.
