New to the Forum ?'s about SCT
Newbie...I have a 2005 6.0, I'm running an 8" lift with 38's have a 4" Cat back exhaust everything else is stock (no studs stock head bolts) I'm really wanting to get a bit more out of this truck..I don't race it or tow anything. I'm wondering can I get a street tune with SCT and be ok with the stock headbolts? Or am I really taking a huge chance?
Was considering a tune from innovative or gearhead.
Thanks

I'm sorry guys after re reading my post I see I was not to clear...What I was asking is could I run a mild street tune on my 05 PSD with stock head bolts without any problems or will I blow a head gasket? Just looking for some advice from some of you that may have allready been this rout
Thanks in advance.

I've run Edge Platinum Hot unlock, Innovative Diesel Perfromance Xtreme Street, and currently on Gearhead's SRL, all on a stock 03 6.0. After verifying that your truck is running as good as you think it is (ECT and EOT happy, FICM happy, etc), the first thing that I would do would be to put in 4.30 or a 4.56 gear. That's a BIG tire for a 3.73 gear. A numerically biger gear will definitely wake that truck up.
If I had to do it all over again, I would get one of those SCT, and exhaust packages the first time. Don't forget to get some gauges, a Scan GaugeII, Edge CS/CTS Insight, Bullydog Watchdog, etc. Or get some actual Auto Meters. I have a Scan Gauge II and Auto Meter EGT and fuel psi.
When you get a program, DON'T hit the loud pedal below 190*, cold diesel and full power equal money from your wallet.

I wonder if it will rain next week? The chances of it raining next week are about the same chances you have of the gaskets lasting. 50/50? Maybe... tough to say. The smaller the tune, the safer you are. Listen to what Karl is saying. A little up-front preventative steps will work out much better in the long run.
Re-gearing wouldn't hurt either. I'd probably just go with 4:10's for that myself, these trucks seem to turn large tires rather easy.

They're not ALL must-haves, they're only must-haves when you have a heavy right foot and are not keeping the truck stock. We are all on dieselbombers because we want to do some sort of modification to our trucks. There really aren't any guys here with stock trucks (or if they are, it's not because they want them that way). Gotta pay to play right?

The year has nothing to do with the heads. Granted the later years had fewer problems elsewhere, but the '07s are just as likely to blow as the '03s. Like Mike said, it's a 50/50 chance, if you have any thoughts of wanting to push a good amount of power, then studs are a damn good investment
