Some shops do headstuds with the cab still on the truck,thats how strictly did mine. But like Mdub said its a waste of time unless u have ur heads decked.It doesnt matter if u ever had a head gasket problem or not, ur heads could still not be flat. I never blew a head gasket before but when my heads were checked by the machine shop guess what? they needed decked.

I agree on having everything done right the first time. If the sole on your boot fell off, you wouldn't just put new shoe laces in them. Everything is a process. I have seen allot of heads with minor surface cracks, cracks by the injector cups, warping etc and you would never really know it until failure. Spend once, cry once.
