Scoop
Sooooo.... I'm not sure if you guys remember when I did the Zoodad mod on my rig that I made a scoop for it the come right behind the vertical slat of my grille. Well...like an idiot I only used plastic pieces and it couldn't really handle the pressure of 75mph wind everyday and it decided to deposit half of itself into my air cleaner. I am already making one out of sheet metal and MIGing it together. Would anyone else be interested in a "kit" so to speak for the modification if I were to to the metal work and send installation instructions?
I'm not sure how much better it flows but according to my BullyDog module it dropped the intake temp 15°. Some people will say that the drop was due to different weather conditions, I ran the truck with the stock setup for about 10-15 miles and the module was reading 88° while the outside temp was hovering around 74° the whole time. After putting the scoop in and driving the exact same 10-15 mile route the intake temp dropped to 72° while the outside temp stayed the same plus or minus a couple degrees. Some will say it's a misreading on the modules part, but the way I see it, that intake is no longer trying to suck the radiator support through the filter and thus is not pulling hot air off the radiator into an already hot turbo. There is a slight possibility that this could drop EGTs but I don't know since I don't have an EGT probe, but it certainly won't make them higher. With the test run on my truck I noticed it has a little more pep out of the hole, my only explanation is that there is less restriction between the cool air in front of the grille and the filter. Only way to tell true gains would be to have a truck do a dyno pull without the mod and then while having no air temp changes or load changes or other modifications added, put the scoop in and do the exact same pull.
