This hesitation could be several things.

Your EBP sensor may be bad or erratic. Should see codes P2263 or P0299 if the exhaust backpressure sensor is faulty. This should also exhibit buck/jerk, hesitation, lack of power, stalling, stumble, black smoke, surging, rolling idle, changes in engine sound at idle or when driving at a steady speed. This sensors signal reading should be .88 - .9 volts at sea level and decrease by .1 volt for every 2000 feet above sea level. Check with the key ON but engine OFF.

This may be low boost caused by the turbo not spooling up as you move the throttle.
The variable vanes may be coked up and sticking from time to time. Remove turbo and clean it up yourself.
Can you hear the turbo whistle as you step on the throttle when its acting up?

Check all of your intercooler hoses before the turbo for leaks.

Default update

i cleaned my egr valve yesterday it was pretty sooted up but dry. put it back in and the truck ran worse valve was stuck partially open and after i cleaned it moved back to closed position still have no engine light on. I unplugged egr while it was running and the problem cleared up so looks like I will be going with an egr delete asap. thanks for all the help

Do an EGR delete, and while you have the turbo off, clean it up. Sounds more like a turbo issue to me. I'd say the combination of cleaning the turbo and doing the delete will help tremendously.
