did a little searching on that wix setup. I put an AFE on my truck and don't like it, but cut the stock front piece up trying to supply the AFE with cooler air. Looks like it pulls in just like the stocker and only a little over $100. Link I found it through https://www.clicksitebuilder.com/tem...&itemID=305684 . I had to click the view larger image to actually see it.

And to the original poster, if you do get something make sure its sealed and pulls air in like the stock one. Even with a heat shield my air intake temps have been around 130 degrees when it was in the 90s this summer. With the stock intake it was usually just a few degrees over the outside temp.

As far as actual filtration and reliability goes, the stocker is almost impossible to beat. It will hold a LOT of dirt, and filters excellent. I'm willing to bet it will actually filter better than any of the other aftermarket units out there. There is only two physical ways to get more air in, using a larger filter, or using larger holes in the filter. The stock unit is HUGE, so what does that tell you?
I'm still interested to see where that Wix setup pulls air from, hard to tell from the pics. No way a panel filter will filter as well as that humongous stock setup.
I will say the stock one is a PITA to change though and does cost a lot in the long run. I run the AFE stage 1 simply because I can't see spending $100 every time the filter is dirty.
Another interesting thing to add to the filter discussion. The stock one will hold so much dirt that some guys actually weigh the filter on a scale to see how much dirt it has held and will replace it based on the amount it has.

hey Mdub did you see the pic in that link I posted above for that wix setup? It shows an actual photo of the intake in pieces. looks like a good setup, my local napa didn't have one in stock when I stopped by the other day. Kid that works there said he would try to get one in so I can check it out and if I can get some money out of this afe I'm going to try it out
