Yes and no.

Taking it off is technically illegal, but it will make your engine run better and be more reliable. The EGR cooler failure can also lead to early headgasket failure as well, so it is a good thing to get it gone. You might want to look into your local emissions laws though. The guys in California are going to have a harder time getting trucks to pass in the coming years without the EGR cooler in place. They also make upgraded coolers, but are very expensive. You can get full valve/cooler deletes for under $300 now.

well i live in britsh columbia canada... and northern alberta for work, emmisions laws arent really an issue.

thanks for the help i will definatly plan on it.. would you recomend doing it yourself or having it done?

i am pretty mechanically inclined.. i have been able to do everything myself that i have encountered so far, this truck is my newest and im just unsure about some of the surprises i might find while trying this.

cheers nick

EGR delete was on of the first things I ever did on a diesel. It's not that bad at all, just a little time consuming. An extra set of hands will make it easier too. If you can turn wrenches go for it. Nothing too complicated about it.

it is but its well worth it. if i was you i would look into a full egr delete. and head studs

cheap insurance compared to haveing to take the truck into a shop. pull the heads off and find out they are cracked or woarped (common problem) as well.
