What if a person was doing a 2wd auto to nv4500 swap. Anyone know if the driveshafts are the same?

Thanks!

Mostlikely not. The transfer cases are the same, so I would say overall transmission legnth is different. Therefore, even with a 2WD, you would need ur shaft recut.

I would be willing to bet that you're right. I know the NV4500 with the 4WD tailhousing was 4" shorter than the 46RH or A15 or whatever its called with its 4WD tailhousing so unless the NV4500's 2WD tailhousing is 4" longer than the 46RH's tailhousing (if that's the transmission you have) then you would need a re-cut shaft. You only have to do the real short half of the rear driveshaft though and it didn't cost me much, a hundred and something...

Default nv4500 swap

hey i have a 2wd nv4500 waiting on the ground under my truck, the shaft lengths all depend on what you convert from and should be handled at a shop... has anyone done a 2wd nv4500 swap or for that matter an nv4500 swap on here, im looking for a little advice i am using a 95' 4x4 trans i converted to 2wd, with the reverse treaded fith gear nut, round top cover, valair clutch and starter spacer, a stock 1995 bellhousing, the 95' master and slave cylinder with 88' resivoir, got the clutch pedal n master cylinder braket out of the 88', the corect input shaft 1.25 and im having a hell of a time stabing this trans because i have no clearence above the to cover of the trans and i dont want to cut my cab all to pieces, its a f#&%^!@ pig of a transmission even dry and i dont know wether to keep hacking away at the tunnel till i can slide her in or what to do hellp plleeassee!!

Uhhh I was told 5 speed to 5 speed the shafts are the same. I measured the nv4500 on my dads truck from the rear of the oil pan to the t-case n same on mine they were within 1/4" of eachother. The auto's you need the rear lengthened n the front shortened I believe.

I had to cut behind the hole I cut in the floor for the shifter about 4 extra inches, I just cut a slot straight back and peeled the metal aside and pushed it back down after I was done stabbing it in. I cut like a old keyhole with a round hole for the tower of the tranny and a slot to slide it up through.
