What an engine makes on a dyno isn't necessarily what it makes at the track. Further, I've always been curious as to what the EGTs of those same trucks are at the top of a 1/4 mile pass for example.

My dog can howl a really high note, but that don't mean she can sing.

OK, so is the fancy dancy stuff worth buying, or should i just try and clean up the stock intake to flow better?

Depends what your shooting for and what has already been done. smoothing and port matching helps and is especially good for the exhaust side. If you already have done mods like high flow air filter & exhaust, and turned the pump up, upgraded the turbo, then the manifolds and horn are next.

Would making your own like cooler tubz be just as good as long as you knew it didn't have any boost leaks?

I did. Lots of guys do. smooth bends and clean welds are key.
