For a 2nd gen 12 valve there are alot of places that can get you a spring. For those of us with 1st gen's you have to pretty much get it from Bosch.

I have a question what is the safest rpm to wrap a first gen up to with a factory motor? At what rpm do I need to get new valve springs?

In all reality all you need is the 3200 spring. Teh VE does not make any real power over that. Anything over that and you should look at 60# Valve springs. And I would not spin the stock internals more then 4k.

if u wanna go above 4000 u need a fluidamper to keep harmonic vibrations from becoming catastrophic.

I'm in the process of making a mechanical TDI pump for a VW TDI. I'll use parts from the stock electronic VW TDI pump, a mechanical VW pump, and a 4BT pump. I'm interested in finding a 5200rpm spring, also do they have ones that go higher? Could i use the those partnumbers and contact bosch to order springs?

I might also note that a few overseas guys have more available mechanical pumps. Several have installed 12mm plungers and had them sieze from high rpm high fueling conditions. Might be something to think about for you guys.

We have 12mm stock... The big power guys upgrade to the 14mm head and rotor. And yes its a low RPM deal (3200 RPM)

Welcome to the site!
