Default Exhaust question

I have a 2006 dodge crew cab some has modified the exhaust before I got this truck. It has no cat and no muffler but just behind the cab is a a resonator. The truck is to loud for me when pulling a trailer, I have a magnaflow muffler should I take the resonator off or should I put the muffler in front of the resonator.

I want as much performance as I can get but I don't want the noise

Thanks for any imput

What you're calling the resonator may be the "cat" used in these trucks...should look like a big football in the mid pipe.

As for your question...I ran a 30" magnaflow without the cat and it wasn't that loud? I would suggest researching the Donaldson line of big truck mufflers, there are a few that are quiet and flow very well.

It does look like a big football. There has been something in front of it cut out(which i assumed to be the cat) and something cut out behind it (i assumed to be the muffler)

I looked a stock exhaust system for a later model truck and it has the same piece. Looking in side it looked to be a flat surface with small perforated holes everywhere.

The magnaflow we free I couldnt pass it up!

If I had to guess based on your description, that's the "cat", which isn't really a cat but a early version of a particulate filter.

The "thing" that was cut out in front of the "cat" was probably an exhaust brake.
