Turbo bark is best described as being similar to a backfire in a gasser. It's a sudden pressure increase that the wastegate can't get rid of so it tries to come out the way it came in; through the turbo intake.
You'll know if you do it because of how odd it sounds .... like a burp or "bark".

had the silencer ring removed for bit now love the sound, Even better unload when you going thought a sleepy little town with about 3,000 pounds behind you get some real head turners also i do see gain in towing with shifting and turbo spools faster.
on side note my friend has 07 6.7 cummins intake mod and silencer ring removel good idea or not ? he already hates the truck not the motor but when buy something used it not gonna be perfect need some front work and now he thinks the trans is starting to go but only when it tow car (it's tow truck Chassie Cab DRW) the truck is really nice i would hate to see him get rid of cause little issues, cause i really like the truck myself cause i do get to drive it once in while and i like it cause well you guess it IT'S CUMMINS !!

Drill a few small holes in the ring, about 1/4 inch. 4 or 5 evenly spaced. You will get a bit more turbo whistle, but not too loud compared to not having it. More sound, more holes. Plus, you can still still have the benefits (if any) that the ring incurrs. My next door neighbor did just that this past Sunday after installing his Afe open element CAI. He first pulled the ring and it was way too loud for him. Just for S&G's, he drilled five 1/4" holes in the ring and reinstalled it. I told him i would give him my ring if he didnt like the sound. It Actually worked. Sounds good, but not too loud that it gets irritating. He's happy with it.

Ya just gotta love the sound But even for me it got quite annoying as I drove to, and returned from a 4-day camping trip, 3 hours each way, as I pulled my 28ft travel trailer. Way too loud. So, Im gonna do what my neighbor did with his silencer ring. That is, drill several 1/4 inch holes, evenly spaced, and re-install it. We'll see how it goes.

Well, I did it. I dug up my silencer ring and drilled six(6) 1/4 inch holes, evenly spaced. I installed it and took it for a test drive. The turbo still sings, but its not as loud as it was with out it. I hooked up my travel trailer and went for about a 20 mile drive on the hwy, with the passenger window down. Its a bit louder, under load, but sounds good and not crazy loud as it was before. I like it!! Maybe Im on to something here. It could be a happy medium...........
