Yep, put them on VE trucks also. Good upgrade and relatively cheap to source.

Hey cerberus60 - What are you using for the vgt controller may I ask?

easy mod to do! i just use throttle return springs, and the flange on the turbo can be modded to fit the t3 flange in about half an hour. i bought my turbo for 120 plus .50 for the springs and thats all the cash i have into it. the rest is just stuf i had lying around to make it fit

Whats vgt? Iknow nothing about turbos. So what is the fabrication to make it fit?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Also is the 6.7 turbo any bigger than the stock third gen turbo.

VGT = variable geometry turbine. Holesets implementation is a sliding collar on the turbine (hot) side that controls the amount of flow over the turbine wheel. By doing this it allows quick spool on acceleration, opens the turbo up for better flow and lower DP at high flow, and allows a built in EB when fully closed.

The downside is the flange is an oddball so you have to take the existing manifold and weld the new one on. The OE implementation electronically controls the collar for turbine size and Fleece Performance have one that will allow the same thing up to a point. The other way is simply a boost cannister and a little fab work to setup so its at 10-12 cm closed and when boost gets high enough it opens to around 20 cm. With a little more fiddle a manual EB can be implemented also. Works great on the 1st gens we have it on and seen the same setups on 2nd gens. would work basically on any truck if so one wants to try it.

The HE351VE is essentialy the same as an HE351, 60 mm compressor wheel with I believe a 65\70 turbine wheel. The sliding colloar allows control form 3 cm to about 30 cm in the turbine flow area. Flow not routed over the turbine is simply dumped to the exhaust like the waste does on the earlier models. Considering the compressor wheel and design the limit is going to be around 40 psi before its out of its map.

So if i went with a ve what do i do with the wires? Or a vgt what would i have to do different? Does anyone have a picture of the finished product? Or is it even worth it. Is there that much gain from a hy35w to a he351ve or vgt?

ny gain was enought to make it worth while, and i had an hx not the hy so yours would be even better! i have 150hp injectors and the vgt cleans them up easily! as for the fab work they sell adapters for $100 but i took it off, drilled and tapped the original bolt holes and put plugs in them, then i machined it flat. after that take the t3 exhaust gasket and mark where you want your holes, then just drill and tap them! next it needs 3 studds in the manifold and 1 in the turbo, the 3 in the manifold go to the top 2 and the bottom hole closest to the front. the one closest to the firewall or back needs to be clearanced on the exhaust manifold to allow for a stud to go through from the turbo because the turbo has a blocked hole and in no way can have a stud go in.
next to controll it i use springs, some people use wastegates but i had springs available, took the idea off of u-tube!

this is where i got the mounting idea, he has a link in the description!

An HE351VE is a VGT turbo. Thats the Holset designation for the turbo off the 6.7's. Its what everybody knows it by.

If you decide to go with the Fleece controller then you will use the wires to control the collar. If not you can remove them and build a plate for a mechanical control. These turbos are water cooled to keep the electronics working so if you go electronic sourrcing coolant flow is a good idea.
