Default SMARTY Programmer

Any proponents of the SMARTY programmer? I have an older predator and have been told it is bad and will eventually ruin my injectors. I want something that will create more power without too much risk of damage to my daily driver. I sometimes tow my 10k lb toyhauler so I want something adjustable. The predator produces enough torque to slip the clutch in my Cummins.

thx,

Rob

the smarty is pretty much the end all of tuners for the cummins, only thing better that i can think of is the Zeus standalone ECM, but they're $3800, I've ran em all for the most part, Bullydog, Edge, Diablo/Predator, PPE, I think at one point i even had a hypertech, and smarty destroys all of these for driveability and adjustability, if you really wanna save your injectors get an Airdog II 165 and that'll really help

thx for your reply and since you brought it up, how would you determine the Airdog 100/165/200? I only have AFE stage2 intake and straight exhaust at this point. The SMARTY is probably my next add. After that, probably a dual-disk clutch kit or who knows???? Maybe I don't quite understand the need with the limited mods i have done. Are you recommending this due to a fault with the stock pump or just an overall recommended add-on for fuel/air/water separtation? I don't know enough to agree or disagree

Everything eventually ruins commonrail injectors. That's like saying eating makes you fat.

well, I guess it is more "what, how much, how often, and at what pace" you eat, wouldn't you agree? I am just trying to figure if there is something I should stay away from because of tribal knowledge or previous experiences; I would like to heed that advice. maybe a better question is "if I run a SMARTY on conservative settings, would I be more likely to risk mechanical failure than with other programmers or chips?"

You eat alot of junk food you get fat. Feed your injectors alot of bad fuel, they die sooner. Junk "fuel" is basically composed of inadequate filtration, inadequate lubricity and water, commonly found in fuel supplies everywhere.

Excessively high rail pressure doesn't help either. Smarty Jr. doesn't do pressure, Sr. may, I don't know anything about the Sr.'s

due to the high level of pressure these common rails have they tend to have injector problems when the amount of fuel required by the programmer is much higher than stock, that being said air is present in diesel fuel and can be very hard on injectors, and at 30,000 psi it's kinda like a mini bomb going off at the injector tip, the airdog takes care of this and gets rid of all the air in the fuel so it's deaerated and filtered down to 2 or 3 microns and it has a water separator too which is a huge plus in my opinion, even if i had a stock truck i'd still want a water/air separator just for peace of mind

oh and the smarty senior has the capability to raise rail pressure very high over stock, if i were you i'd get the airdog on first then smarty then clutch

That air in fuel thing is a marketing gimmick for selling expensive pumps to people who don't need them.

wANT YOUR INJECTORS TO LIVE Put a 2 micron filter pre CP-3. Then one ounce per gallon of 2 cycle oil will lubricate everything. Stock fuel system is a weak link prone to failure in delivery and filtration! smarty is the most versitile system hands down! You just need to play with it to learn what works on your truck! Be careful if stacking running a pressure box like an MP-8 can and will melt a piston!

OK I guess everything is a marketing gimmick and air in the fuel is a good thing when you're pushing close to 30,000psi through the injectors
