I have heard nothing but good things about Smartys, however my buddy put me on to BullyDog and I'm running a BullyDog Triple Dog and love it. Found the Scarry Larry tune and it's NICE!!!

Don't think you can go wrong with a smarty. To use it's higher levels you will need an upgraded trans, fuel etc but it's something you can grow into. That's how I look at it.

Smarty. I had an edge before, not a bad starter box, but I wish I had bought the smarty first. Like said before, if you turn that smarty up, you'll need mods or you'll tear the truck up.

The BD is not a bad tuner either, they have a lot of good tunes. I have heard a few stories about the BD messing up ECM's, but it's been a year or so since I've seen something bad about them.

Is your truck an 04 or 04.5? If the build date is after 1 Jan 04, it's the 04.5.

depends, if you have an early 04, it seems right now ppe is running the best on the 03/04 trucks, if you have an 04.5 then smarty or bullydog, some trucks run better on the smart and some trucks run better on bully dog, but remember when comparing, you need to compare smarty tnt to bully dog crazy, there are also higher versions available if you have the mods to support, if running bully dog and wanting the higher tunes, i have them on my website, like crazy, senotor, scarry, and phedaphile larry.

we ran the bully dog and found it lacking in power and it also had a pause when pressing on the skinny pedal and also when letting off of it

In my experience between a Smarty, Bully Dog , and a PPE on the 03 and early 04 (which is what you say you have) the PPE is hands down my favorite. Plus with a PPE you can get their HOT tune that is a 300 HP tune. On my truck the PPE was tremendously better than the other two. The Smarty seems to fuel harder on the bottom end then drifts off in the middle and is pretty much done by a little after the 1/8 mile on the track. Also down low it makes my truck smoke ridiculously. The PPE fueled a lot harder in the middle and defiantly fueled harder on the top end. My times were consistently better with the PPE than with the Smarty. Plus my EGTs were lower. For me I don't need help with low end fueling , I have injectors for that , I need and want my fueling in the middle and top end. As far as on the dyno I put down a little over 700 HP at the rear wheels through all 4 of my 22.5s and 40 inch drive tires with a PPE and Dr. Performance module.
