Default If it was your 48RE...

So I'm trying to decide what I should do about my trans. Part of me wants to get a new, built trans shipped to me so I never have to worry about it again. However, my 48RE is doing just fine at 73k on it. It is starting to flair a bit in 2nd and it has a hard time shifting at WOT but it's not slipping. My plans for the truck is intake, exhaust, Smarty or Edge J/A and that's it. Stock injectors unless I'm forced to replace them and stock turbo. Most of the time, the truck is driven unloaded in rush hour, in town traffic. When she does haul, it will be a trailer that weighs 10k and eventually a light slide-in camper.

So here is my questions, what would you do? VB and TC and call it good? Rebuild my trans with all the goodies? Just buy a trans and stop worrying about it? In a perfect world where I have money and no truck payment, I would just buy a trans and get it over with but I have a really hard time letting go of my money! LOL I don't know much about these trans, so I need a detailed list for dummy's.

(BTW- Thank you so much BD sponsors for the trans quotes and all the help so far! )

Don't fix it if it ain't broke. You'd be surprised how well these trannies will do and how long they will last with regular service and limited abuse.

my dad has an 06 2500 that he pulls with everyday and his GCW is around 16,00-18,000 and he got the truck with 3,000 miles on it and now has 116,000 and has not had one problem with the tranny.Mine on the other hand had 100,000 on it i and i ended up going with a built one but i also pull a lot more weight than he does. i agree with nadirpoint if it aint broke don't fix it and start putting aside some money now cause when it goes or if it goes you are already ready for it. I'm a young guy and found this stuff out the hard way. hope this helps

If you're gonna be towing/hauling more than 20% of the time, I'd consider the VB/TC upgrades. Otherwise, make yourself a rainy day fund for if and when the time comes you do need to replace the tranny.

Now that's a deal and a half... Let me know the details if he is serious...

I can't leave it alone... It just shifts so badly, IMO! The issues that I have noticed is:

1) Light throttle, 2nd gear seems to go into neuteral for a fraction of a second repeatedly.

2) Won't shift into 3rd under full throttle

3) My Butt-Dyno says I'm loosing a lot of power until the TC locks up.

4) Has a hard time picking a gear when going to full throttle from cruising.

My problem is I know nothing about these trans. I have heard of some Gov thingy and a DTT Noise something-or-other, maybe a TC and VB... I just want to be able to beat on this thing and not worry about it!

I guess my problem is I would rather spend my money on my Cruiser or the house than my truck if I can get away with it...
