You should know what's going on with your engine at all times, install gauges before you even think about adding power. If you do any pulling, your going to want to monitor your trans temp also. Going with a nice set of gauges might mean you have to wait another couple months before you can afford an upgrade, but its better then toasting your engine or transmission. I understand that you can monitor with Edge power, you would probably be more happy with a smarty, its the latest and greatest and some would say the safest.
That's my 2 cents

Yea I really like the looks of a set of guages in a truck, and I would love to be able to monitor everything. And I have heard nothing but good things about smarty so I will just have to weigh my options and decide what it best for me and my budget. Thanks for the help everybody.

i just bought an 06 3500 drw yesterday and drove it back from texas to iowa and going 75-80 i averaged hand calculated 21 mpg. all it has is 4" turbo back straight piped exhaust. i'm thinking of putting a smarty jr on next with gauges.

I just hand calculated my fuel mileage today for about the 4th or 5th time, and I get 16 or 17 mpg every time. This is mostly around town though. Is this normal or should I get more?

That's about what I'm getting. Look for a Rokk timing sensor, can usually find em used here on the for sale section. It advances the timing 2-3 deg. with the same amount of added mileage.

Wow, your mileage seems low to me. I have a 3500 4x4 dually with the automatic and I routinely get 21 mpg. If I keep it at or under 65mph on the highway I can easily get 22mpg. In winter when they switch to the winter blend fuel and I use the fast idle, my mileage drops to 19-20.

I hear guys with the 6sp manual routinely get 24mpg.

Edge Juice with Attitude- Has the very good pda style guages - and adjustability on the fly and one of my fav options- turbo timer to protect it. All good and occasionally Edge has the Hot codes on sale and then WOW!

OK. I pretty much have got my mind made up on getting the edge juice with attitude. Do you guys think I should get something for the transmission first? Like a heavy duty torque converter and a better valve body? If so what kind is the best for the money? I think I should though because now it tries to hunt back in forth between 1st and second gear when I try to take off slow but when I get on the throttle pretty hard it does fine. Or it will rev up pretty high but it doesnt take off for a few seconds. And from what I have read from other post on here that is the torque converter not locking up right.

I ran an Edge on mine and I never had to worry about the transmission. If I was empty I ran it on 3 or 4. Towing, level 2 most of the time, rarely 3.

I would be tickled pink if I could ever see 18 MPG in my truck.
