They should come with instructions.
If not the easiest way to drill the manifold is to remove the pass side inner fender liner and you can drill it from there.

heck just go ahead and take the turbo and exhaust manifold off and drill it off the truck. Helps learn how to take the stuff off for future reference. And its nice to check stuff.

KISS ( keep it simple stupid)
Why do all that work when you can do it the easy way? I have drilled close to 10 common rail pyro's and going through the fender well is the easiest way. Just coat the drill bit and tap with grease to catch the metal chips. Never had a problem doing it this way.

Why remove the fender well? When all you have to do is open the hood. Get a little magnet that will go down the hole you drilled and you will get out shavings.

That is the way I did it... on a cold engine, not-running. It was pretty easy. If something goes wrong (broken drill) or whatever, then take it all apart.

The problem with where you put that probe is your not monitoring the most important 2 cylinders. 5 & 6 run the hottest and are the ones that usually melt down. Most probes are put in the flat spot as shown in the attached pic. This is off an 06 running 2 pyro's. If your only running one put it in the spot on the left, i didn't drill this crooked one.
Most probes come with instructions and they usually show this spot too.

I bought my gauges from Geno's Garage and their installation bulletin shows to put it on cylinder 3 like where I put mine.

BTW, how can one cylinder be hotter than another?

5 & 6 always run hotter. seems to have something to do with the cooling system.

It's the way i was told to do it correctly and so the way i've always done it.

Strange that on the photo of their alternate pyro location it says that cylinder 1-3 will read hotter.
