Default Bullet Proof Tranny

I have been told that the weakest link in the dodge cummins is the tranny. I have heard that there is aftermarket parts for the transmission that will make it bullet proof. I have an 05 Dodge 2500 I pull a 30 ft. camper occasionally, but I have a bully dog 5'' exhaust, cold air intake, and bully dog programer with outlook monitor. I just want to make my tranny bullet proof as cheap as possible. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You should be fine with just a TC and a VB.

Does your trans slip now at all?

The trannys in the 05s seems to be pretty good. That's why I was asking. You can always benefit from a tighter TC than what the factory is willing to put in. But if money's tight I would personally wait until you start feeling slip from the TC under load and then get a new TC and VB.

a torque converter and a valve body will strengthen ur tranny, and give you firmer shifts which will help you when u are pulling. dodge did great with puttin a cummins in the ram, but the tranny they paired it with absolutly stinks. 3rd gen autos max out at around 700-750 ft lbs of tq and the manuals will handle a lil more at 800. but as soon as you go past the trannies limits with programmers and other mods ur askin for trouble. some will hold out for awhile others will crap out right away. I dont know if i personally would wait until my tranny started slipping b4 i got at least one of the parts, because it might take a dump completely outta the blue and leave ya without a truck. but yeah tc and vb are good for beefin up the dodges trannies. so yeah sry bout the novel lmao. i guess i am in a typing mood but ne way thats my two cents.

Planning on doing anything else to the truck or are you happy with where you are at?

full billet shafts arent really on the "as cheap as possible route. if your gunna get tc and vb and full billet input, intermediate and output shafts u might as well just buy a built tranny from a respectable diesel transmission builder. goerend and suncoast would be my choices if it were me. how extensive you go w building up ur tranny really depends on how much torque and hp you plan on pushin to the ground. once you have that figured out then youll know better how built ur tranny needs too be too handle the torque.
