Default Edge EZ help

A few months ago i bought a used EZ box. I got about a 50-60 rpm surge/lope at around 1600 rpm. Sounds like an extra valve rattle. Engine tone definitely changes.

So I sent it into Edge and they gave me a deal on a new box.
Guess what.....it does the same thing

Please explain to me what I'm hearing/feeling. I don't think I got 2 bad boxes. I think this is the way these tuning boxes work.

I get a surge between 1500-1600 rpm. Sounds like it's changing timing. When accelerating you don't notice it because you blow through that range, but when you try to cruise, it's there. However, it's not as bad on level 2 as it is on 3. Forget about using cruise control with the box on.

I've got great fuel pressure 17psi at idle and hard driving down to 13.

If I remove the box, truck runs fine. Just not a much fun. WHat is going on here??

Wow 89 views and no replies? Nobody's ever had this problem with Edge?? Damn, I must be special

Possibly its your MAP sensor or apps.

Sent with a Droid RAZR in one hand and 14,000 volts in the other.

But why doesn't the box play nice with my truck? In stock form I've towed 8k lbs 400 miles several times with the cruise set for hours without a single twitch. It was just happy plugging along. I think if there was something wrong with the truck it would've showed up then.

I just wanted a little extra power, not make the truck undriveable.

the edge might just be amplifying said problem and it's not noticeable when you don't have the chip on.

as far as cruise out of both my trucks the cruise control has never worked properly after putting on a chip. my red truck would if set at 65, it'd floor it self and run all the way to 90 before settling down and then it'd feather the throttle and make it feel bucky. my white truck it pulses the throttle quick and then feathers the throttle to where it accelerates quickly then stops, then accelerates. not sure but i've heard alot of people have that problem

my fuel mileage while trying to run cruise normally makes it drop substantially compared to just running it without cruise. we are talking like anywhere from 2-4 at minimum mpg difference

I had the same surge with my 01 and an edge comp. it all started when I did a new VP. So I think it's the VP myself

I have a hard time buying the line, "There's something wrong with the truck and the box just magnifies it!" That's the same BS I got from Edge. Truck runs fine stock, slow yes, but fine otherwise. No smoke, good mileage, smooth acceleration.

On the advice of a local shop, I reset my APPS yesterday and that took away about 90% of the surging. Was told that sometimes they need to be reset when a box installed so it can recognize new parameters. We'll see how long it lasts.
Interesting note: Said shop did tell me that they stopped selling the EZ because of customer complaints about this issue. Apparently the VP trucks are a shot in the dark whether they take kindly to tuners. Some run great and some don't.

Yet you think its a problem with the box when 2 different boxes both done the same thing. After said shop reset the apps and it helped the truck yet you still think its the box.

I still think your map sensor could be the problem since the edge plugs into it. Those sensors operate on a very narrow voltage range so any slight voltage difference can cause a problem.

Sent with a Droid RAZR in one hand and 14,000 volts in the other.

Try cleaning your MAP and IAT Sensors.

Hmm you have a good point. I'm getting frustrated because I don't understand what is going on. And I'm not sure I'm asking the right questions. Other than this tone change/strange noise, the truck runs great. Awesome acceleration and throttle response. I don't see any codes. The more I drive I'm wondering if I'm hearing normal VP sounds with a chip. It acts like it wants to come onto a timing curve. Am I hearing the tone change as it does?
