Default push button igniton

Alright so I'm thinking about rigging up a push button ignition. I want to make it so keys are still needed to turn the truck on and run the grid heater but turning the key forward won't do anything and have a push button to crank the engine over.

Anyone know how to wire this up? Or has anyone done it?

I was thinking having to splice into the wires for crank and disabling them to the igniton switch and running it to the push button?

it would be easiy to do just take a wire from the positive side of the batt to push button from push button to your solinoid on your starter to the smaller wire but why do you want to having probs??

no just looking to put a push button starter in a hidden place for security and just cause i think itd be cool. Im a truck and trailer tech and i see that setup on big rigs all the time and i just think it's cool, except they put theirs in obvious spots, i'd like to have it hidden. i know thatd be the easy way to do it but if i did it that way the key ignition pushed forward would still crank the motor, i want to make it so the only way to crank it is to use the push button.

Are you looking to interrupt the circuit, so the key and button are required or button only? I've installed a lot of momentary switches on equipment so both are needed to start.

if you want to make it hidden make the cigarette lighter the push button.

you know what i'm talkin about RAWILLIAMS? I know you do heavy equipment so idk how familiar you are but setup like on an old pete or kw, you still need keys to turn the truck on, run the electroics in the run position but you have to hit the push button to actually turn the engine over...I havent messed with ignitions on those trucks that much so i'm not sure how they actually have it setup.

basically making so you can get in and put the keys in the ignition and turn the key to the run position but to turn the motor over you need to push the button.

That doesn't sound too tricky. Find a suitable switched power source, run it to the switch. Cut the wire from the ignition that goes to the start relay, and hook it into the other side of the push button switch.

that's what i was thinking but kinda started thinking how much it'd suck to do that and then have it not work and with frustration and bad luck manage to somehow not get it working again haha.

i wonder how hard it'd be to rig up to work off the cigarette lighter. thinking maybe all it'd take is to disable the cigarette lighter and run the wires from 12v source to the signal wire to the starter in the base of the cylinder and make it so the actual lighter completes the connection.

probably just have to make it so that the power doesnt try and ground out to the signal wire without the lighter pushed it. or tap into the actual wiring for the lighter and for the ground on the lighter cut it and put the signal wire in that spot and use the cigarette lighters 12v power to make the power to the starter?

I wouldn't tap into the cig lighter, doubt it would have the amperage. I would use the same circuit as the ignition. I'll think on it, and look at a schematic.
