new turbo
Have on 01 2500 series and was wondering if putting a 3rd generation turbo on it would be a good inexpensive upgrade(if I can find one at the bone yard that is)? What year would be the best? Was thinking bout gettin one off an 06. Not sure if there is any difference in the 3rd gen turbos.
Wouldn't you have to get the stand alone computer from the aftermarket in order to get the turbo to work on a 2nd gen since the 3rd gens have the variable geometry turbo? Or is that only the 6.7s?
If you have the Nov 10 issue of Diesel Power look on pg 138. Fleece Performance put a 6.7 CR HE351 VNT turbo on a 99 24v. They have thier own computers and everything. If you have questions about it i would contact them. Im lookin at doing it too because with a 5spd my Super B special is just too laggy.
If its an 06 you do not need a standalone controller. The vgt's are only on the 6.7. And yes it would be a good mild upgrade to the stocker. Should keep a quick spool and and should push enough air for 450-500 hp.
