Just look at the door badge - a 24V will say 24Valve Cummins Turbo Diesel while a 12V will just say Cummins Turbo Diesel.

As well, the valve cover will say 24V if its a 24V.

As for the VIN, if the 8 th digit is a D - then its a 12V - if its a 6, then its a 24V.

The only worries about the block are if it's a 53 series block. Not all trucks made in Mexico plants are 53's. If it is a 53, I would do what ever it is you wanted to do to it anyway. They are a problem but only a small percentage of them ever become an issue. You just only hear about the bad ones, nobody talks about the ones that don't crack. HOLD ON TIGHT, I HEAR DR EVIL COMIN THROUGH THE DOOR.

First off, Guages. Fuel Pressure, EGT are mandatory and Tranny temp would be nice.

Next a fueling chip of some sort. Do some resaerch on these, there are many different ones available and some of them good ones. But no one that fits all needs. So you need to decide what you want to do with the truck ie, speed, pulling or daily driver. Also need to know your final goal for HP.

If it already has the injectors that's great, if not a set of RV275's make a nice addition.

These things are gonna be a strain on your tranny, if you go anymore then this you will need tranny work done for sure to hold the power and deliver it to the road.
