Default Here's a Cool fix too!

I come to this and other forums a lot for help and now I can give back a little.

My cup holder in my 01 3500 broke, of course at the stupid weak *** hinges where everyone's seem to break. I found the ebay dude's plans for the little cable. That looks like a cool idea and from what I've seen here and on other forums, it works good. That will definitely be my back up if my idea doesn't work, but I wanted my fix to look as close to stock as possible. I had an idea of gluing washers at the hinges to replace to broken pieces from the POS dodge part.

Turns out the cup holder had broken before I got this truck and the previous owner had the same idea I did. As I began taking the cup holder out of the dash, I found the washers the previous owner used. Turns out it's a pretty good idea because............. I bought this 01 in 05 and have put over 170,000 miles on it over these last 7 years. I always have a giant cup of coffee in one side (think as wide as the holder will open and I still have to jam it in there) and will often have a giant soda in the other side. I'm just trying to stress how durable this fix is that also looks stock!

So using the thin washers the previous owner cut down and some Gorilla Glue super glue I was able to re-fix my cup holder in a few minutes for almost no money (I was out of super glue so I had to buy it)! I used a little too much glue so you can kind of see some white crusties. I'm just going to use a sharpie to color over it. If you use this method, be sure NOT to use a ton of super glue like I did. Here are some pics of process and the finished product. Here's to anther 7 years. I hope this helps someone.
