Default Thinkin of a turbo upgrade

hey i am new to the forum and i was thinking of a turbo upgrade. my egt's are to high.

i have an 01 2500 cummins 6 speed with southbend clutch, pusher pump, edge comp, dd stage two 90hp injectors, straight through exaust, and a k&n in stock cut out box.

i took it to the track for fun and ran a 16.1 and could easily hit 1500 egts fast. i think i need a bigger turbo or at least an upgrade. just want some opinions!!!!

also the stock turbo is putting up 40 pounds of boost by the gauge. what can i safely run on the stock motor? what upgrades should i do for more boost?

First off...

I woudl be looking for a S300 in teh 62/71/14 range. Maybe a mod will move this to the 2nd gen area were it will get some more looks by the guys that know you trucks inside and out.

Phat Shaft 62/65/14 or Super Phat Shaft 62/71/14 would work great.

welcome to the boards!
What size exhaust do you have? if it is the stock 3 inch with a straight pipe, you will want to upgrade that to at least 4" turbo back...that will help drop your egt's. What are you mainly using your truck for? running the 62/14 you are going to have some turbo lag compared to your stock one but once it spools up... hang on! I run the 62/12 (soon to be 62/13... he he he thanks Luke!) This will spool up a little bit faster not quite as much lag but not quite as much go on the top end.. either way you cant go wrong! I went with High Tech Turbo.

With his 6spd the 14 will not really be an issue. But with the boost your pushing right now I would be worried about the head gasket. Time for o-rings and studs. I have basically your same combo you have with the 62/71/14 and an auto and love it. Egts are down and the thing has very nice street manners and can smoke as little or as much as you want. You will really like the airflow. Also I think getting a bhaf or better air intake will help you too.

id go with something like a bd super b with what you have...it will spool just fine for you and give you a little room to grow...as mentioned before, if you dont already have a 4" or bigger, then get that done as well...jmho, id ditch the k&n and throw in a bhaf or something of the like...over-oil those k&ns and your turbo will not be happy oh, and stock turbo isnt good over 35lbs...40lbs is just blowing in a lot of hot air...as far as you engine is concerned, you can go up to 45lbs, but anything over is asking for trouble w/ stock studs...
