Ok and pulling as in compettion pulling. The truck will be a designated puller within the year. For now I just would like to set it up for local events

Well in that case....

66 with 6x.013's if you stick with the stock injection pump...

otherwise go BIG or go home. p7100 6x.018s etc...

trying to be competitive in a vp44 truck in sled pulls is a long shot as the vp44 and VE pumps are both the serious underdogs.... p7100 12v's and common rails have a clear fueling advantage

Agreed, in the long run you will be happier switching to a P-Pump right of the hop, and likely cheaper. Otherwise you put all that money into the VP system, to strip it off and start again with a P-Pump.

Well I was planning on ppumping at some point... Pretty much when the vp goes bad I will. What are the pros and cons of the ppump conversion

pro: more tolerant to abuse. does not require fuel lubrication, massive fueling potential, cheaper to gain performance from, can be made to rev up to 5k rpm.

con: static timing, can't be tuned on the fly, if you bypass fueling safeties it can potentially be tuned too much and cause a run-away diesel. (as in it keeps fueling and even after you kill the ignition it still doesn't shut down and keeps on revving. basically have to choke off the air intake to kill it at that point.)

converting to p7100 also costs as much as replacing your vp44 3 times. so if you are doing it just because you had a vp44 fail once, you are throwing away money. but if you are doing it to fuel past 650hp, then it is worth the money.
