Default Egt temps?

What is to hot,and how long before you hurt something? I had the programmer in tow mode,level 2 I think? And was hitting 1000deg running about 80mph ? Is that normal? Trailer was a empty 16' tandom nuttin heavy? How do you solve the high egt's if that's considered to high?

you can run 1250* sustained all day long and not hurt a thing.

beyond that temp is starting to get into the grey area.

you can run up to 1500* in short bursts but don't sustain temps that high for long or you can potentially do damage.

1200-1250* temps are not a problem though. engine and turbo can take it all day long persistently held at those temps...

cummins actually tests engines for duration at those temps.

if 1000* is the highest you're seeing...you are in really good shape

I cruise at 800-1000* on the freeway empty...

I run 80mph+ in the field here in TX, i stay right in the 600-800 range, might see 900-1100 if im hauling a fully loaded goose neck or 5th wheel.

Thanks gentleman. Was just curious. I pulled 4ton of gravel yesterday,she did better than I thought! Was impressed. Granted it was only about 15 miles but I dont think it climbed past 1200.

I was always told 1050 all day long on these will not hurt them at all. Mine spikes past that but I defuel it at 1150 to be safe. I was told common rails and newer could take the higher heat. I'll error on the side of caution if I have to. My truck really only gets used for towing and I've never hurt it and hauled way over the limit many times. Just got to know the engines happy spot for power and egts when hitting a hill.

1050 is a good point to bring up as that is a valid max temp depending on your pyrometer location.

1050* is the safe max POST-TURBO
however if your pyro is in the manifold PRE-TURBO 1250* is the max.

So if you have your pyro in the manifold, you can safely kick it up a notch. I have my truck set to defuel at 1500* I really only see over 1200* if I am set to maximum power and put the pedal to the metal.

95% of the time I drive on timing only which is still ~400hp for my truck.
