Trans build for governor spring upgrade?

Default Trans build for governor spring upgrade?

I want opinions on transmission life after 3 or 4k governor spring upgrades.

Is it necessary to build the trans to handle the extra RPM?

Does the engine make more power after the 2250rpm fuel cut?

I'm just nervous to grenade the trans as my tranny is dead stock.

If you are dead stock, your best possibility would be either a valvebody from HTS or Goerends, or if you feel like getting fully into it a trans go shift kit. This will help this transmission live, and will give you a much better performance. Even after the transmission dies, this is an upgrade that can be cleaned up and reused on the new transmission depending on how the builder wants to go.

Technically you don't need an upgrade just for the GSK, but in all reality you need to upgrade the transmission right off the dealers lot...........

Just for gsk, you don't need trans upgrades. But shift kit or vb would sure complement the gsk

PS: The gsk doesn't really add any more power, it just widens the powerband.

Is the 4k governor spring kit & valve springs better than just the 3k kit? The truck will mostly be used on the street and some occasional stoplight speed competitions.

4k will require HD valvesprings. And they aren't better than a 3k, just allows you to rev higher, and gives you a wider powerband. It all depends on if you only need 3k rpm's, or 4k. Neither is really better. IMO, might as well do 4k though, and get it done.

I understand what you're saying. What I mean is, is there any decisive advantage to either kit?

If you go with the 4k, you run the risk of loosing power because your valves will float and not give you the power. Personal opinion

Wider powerband means longer time between shifts. A 4k will just give you more time than a 3k. But if you aren't racing at all, you probably won't ever get to 4k rpms. I have been told the 4k fuels a bit harder than a 3k, just because it is a little tighter. I wouldn't know, as I've only ever run 4k.

Thats why they make HD valvesprings.

There are tons of sites that sell them. Some sell them as kits - 4k gsk w/ 60# valvesprings. I got lucky and found someone selling both for cheap on another forum. Payed 150 for everything I think. Usually run about 220 or so.
