Default Competition Engine Build

Over the next couple of months I'm going to finally break down and build my engine that way I can pull at the Colorado NSPA pulls next season. So here's what I'm thinking of doing and I'd like to get some more opinions on what I'm hoping to accomplish.

First off I'm keeping my benched 12mm pump set at 32* timing but here's what I'm at right now...
*rebuild kit
*Mahle 13:1 .020 over marine pistons with coated skirts, rings, etc (maybe fly cut)
*Diesel Pros street cam
*Main studs
*Girdle
*Coated bearings, rods, etc
*hd rod bolts
*Billet CR tappets
*.120 chromoly pushrods
*S400 single charger (I'm thinking 72mm)
*14mm headstuds
*5x.018 injectors
*.093 Fuel lines
*ATI or Fluidamper harmonic balancer
*fully balanced bottom end

Then as far as my head goes
*O Ringed
*milled intake manifold
*Full P&P
*Oversized valves
*Hamilton HD springs and retainers
*Individual runner intake plenum

Am I on the right track? Am I spending money on things I don't need?

WOW! I have no clue, as to what class your going for. nor do I know what it takes to pull for competition! It looks like a solid build to me!

Contact: WIDE OPEN PERFORMANCE

Send them an e-mail they are quite buisy! It is easyer for them to look at your build and make a good assesment that way! those guys are the best on this side when it comes to performance!

WOP would be a great bet if you were going to a powerstroke... but we are talking about a cummins here...

Build looks good, I would cut the pistons... and maybe look at a 24v head...

Why are you sticking with a single charger?

I'm still thinking about getting the pistons cut, I know with the street cam I won't need them cut but I'm really thinking that if I do this, I might as well go all out esepcially since this is going to be some of the last work I do on this engine. I'm going to go with a single charger so that I can stay in a class where I can be competitve in. But at the same time I want to keep my compounds on so I can still drive it. A 24v head would be cool, especially since I know where a good used one is, I've been weighing that option out as well I'm just a little iffy on it but it'd be cool to have a home made P-Pumped 24v.

I'm not sure how this is all going to work, i'm just getting as much info as I can get before moving on. I'm thinking of scrapping the 13:1 pistons and possibly just getting stock marine pistons on it and cutting them to bring the compression down slightly... The only thing I know for certain of is the end of this month and all of December is going to be really fun if all of this goes off without a hitch

why such a low CR ratio?

I'd do a 24 valve head if your doing pistons anyway.

I was thinking of a low compression because right now I'm seeing 80-85 psi of boost once that 480 lights, and I have my 64 wastegated at 25psi, so from what I understand is alot of the high boost guys run a lower compression to "compensate" for that but I'm also hoping with a full P&P I can drop my boost quite a bit. Also with a high timing wouldn't I want to run lower compression??

I'm definetly not an expert when it comes to building a competition enginem, and I'm going off of what I've read and seen, so please do school me, I'd appreciate the help.

Think it'd be worth switching to a 24v head? I'm doing pistons anyways so that's no biggy, I'd just have to run 24v injectors and get different fuel ines to go from the pump to the head right??

A 24 valve head will flow way more air than a 12 valve head. You would have to run 24v pistons, injectors, connecting tubes, fuel lines, and 24v headstuds.

I'd keep the 12v head personaly. If its done right on the valve work and porting it will out flow a 24valve or cr head all day. Also the 12v head has less valve seat issues.

I know the new Industrial Injections 24V ported heads are flowing right about twice that of a stock 24v head. So there is tons of flow coming out of those heads
