Exactly... After this weekend, my build just got pretty simple and alot less complicated. Now it's just a matter of getting it done.

What kind of timing would I need to run a 140* cone angle 5x.018? What would be the benefits of going with a 140* angles over the 145*?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Also, how well could a 5.9 spool a big single on the street? I was talking to about it with some friends and I'm a little worried about it being horrible to drive on the street

Turbine wheel/housing on the single can vary greatly, would have a large effect on spool time.

So if I'm using a standard cummins marine piston, that is cut to lower the CR a little bit, then how would those 140* injectors work out?

As far as turbos, I might as well keep my compounds, because for a single charger wouldn't I want to have a larger housing for it for competition use, which would make it laggy on the street... But if I go with a smaller housing, I could probably spool it but wouldn't I be "choking" for air while using it in a pull?

I would recommend the 286210 piston with the 140° cone angle. The marine piston is a bit low on compression ratio to begin with for what you are looking for. I would look into changing primary chargers, but that is your call, I'm not a fan of the pig S480 that everyone on the internet thinks they have to have.

what are your thoughts on the s478's? I have not heard a whole lot about them other than there compressor wheel is suposed to be very lighter than the s475's.

What primary would you recommend? After having the S480 I can honestly say I don't know what the hype was about, when it gets going it's fun, but it's not all that great when your in town going light to light. Honestly I only went with the 480 because I was dead set on keeping my 64/71 as my secondary and all the hype on the forums of having a 64/480 compound set up .

And with those pistons, with the 140* cone angles, what kind of timing would I want to be running to make everything completely work?

I'm trying to get the last of my questions thought out so I can start getting parts, especially because the guy doing my rebuild is getting anxious to start on it. I'm going to give Mamau Diesel a call tomorrow morning and talk to them about the 286210 pistons, and possibly just buy the whole rebuild kit from them, and start tearing into it. I've still got some time to get all the correct parts while the block and head go to the machine shop.

Also, I got my hands on some CR tappets from a friends old engine. Will those work?

It's the turbine I am not a fan of.

Timing will depend on how much street driving you are looking to do.

Don't they use the same turbines as the rest of the s400's? 74/83 80/87 87/96?

or am I overthinking this and your simply saying you don't like BW trubine wheels?

I only like the 88/96mm turbine on a 12.7L Detroit, not on a 5.9L.

Forced has them with the smaller turbines as well in either a t4 or t6, thats what I was told when asking about one a few months ago
