Need advice on setting up a 96' for Towing
So Ive got the intercooler out of my o7' cummins and the horn and all the pipeing. could I put that on my 96' and is it gonna be better than the stock set up or do I need to order one up for the 12v application.
Thanks for the advise, Gonna order up some 4 inch exhaust, advance my pump,Do the afc mods, open up the intake, tear into the trans, and see what thats gonna do for me.
Oh and some guages
. Thanks again

torque converter and valve body shift kit is a must, then timing ti at least 16.5 degrees, strait pipe and get your pump benched and set up,and still ran the stock injector's, it's worth the money, i used to pull vail pass and red mountain, wolf creek and monarch aswell as a bunch of others with a 4 horse trailer with living quarters and a slide on it, grossing around 22K on the scales, but also install gauges, boost, pyro and tranny temp, and monitor them, good luck bro
oh and a 3 K govenor spring kit,
oh and a 3 K govenor spring kit,
set up for towing about 18K pounds through the Rocky Mountains
The transmission being done is a MUST and I would say that a good aftermarket transmission cooler that has a thermostatically controlled fan on it would ensure its longevity. Also note the 07 CAC will not fit your 96 truck and there is no way, without major hacking up front,to make it fit.For the job you want to do and I know you will not want to hear this but a bar and plate design aftermarket CAC will be needed to keep the air charge cool.
Like I said:
A stout tranny would be nice, but it won't make any difference after the cylinders are filled with molten aluminum halfway up one of these grades.
Don't even post in this thread unless you've towed heavy through the Rockies. It's whole different ball game than I'm sure than most of you are aware of.

A good trans will help with braking, stopping, and heat issures ... but I have never towed in the rockies therefor don't listen to me.
But when your sitting on the side of the road with a blown trans I'll be sure to stop

: Very True, I do agree with ya, Running cool is #1 priority. Guages, water meth, and a good charger is a must. I will probually Do some trans work too, just because, but stock tranny or built tranny, This Cowboy wont need no help on the side of the road.
I'm sure my 48re will do just fine, If I am ever up that way I'll be sure to post my results. I have no problem pulling long grades.
