Default Parts and functions of the afc

Ok so i moved my AFC all the way back and it seems to make the same power if not a little more how is this. I dont understand how the parts of the AFC work with the parts of the pump. I have a ground plate and mod AFC barrel. Mabe someone could talk threw the parts and explain what does what because i am puzzled about it all. Thank you for any body that will have the pashence to explain this to me excuse the spelling.

ok so what does the plate do? So let me see if i have this correct the lever inside the pump moves foward with throtle. It hits the afc arm and depending on how close or how far the arm is to the lever determins how much fuel it gets when you first mash the pedal. Once the lever comes into contact with the arm it pushes the arm foward and depending on how tight the star wheel spring is determins how fast it pushes the arm foward. So saying it a diffrent way is the tighter the spring the less fule it gets before the turbo starts to spool. And once it pushes the arm all the way foward it comes into contact with the plate and depending on the cut on the plate depends on how it fules on the top end. Please tell me if i have any of this mixed up i still dont know how the arm really works on the plate and what about the smoke screw what does that do.

If you have a 215pump with a modded barrel then you will want the afc full-rear. This will help with smoke and will stop it from putting out the fire down low. Then tune the starwheel for the afc to the rear and you should get better mileage less smoke and it MIGHT even be a bit quicker down low

You have it right.. The kicker is the boost pressure on the AFC arm. Depending on spring pressure, your boost will determine when you hit the plate. And its sort of a closed loop. Less spring more fuel for less boost, but can increase the rate of boost to a point or like was said, flood out the fire. Tuning the AFC is more to do with what mods you have and isn't the same for every truck. There isn't a standard setup that just works out of the box.

Ah you have an auto my bad. Thought it was a 5spd in which case you'd have the 215 pump. I'm not sure about tuning the afc on the 180 pump. Try moving it full-rear and the plate full-forward and see what happens
