ya true that but the local diesel shops around here are scumsucking moneysuckers that induce thoughts of death by rope. Perhaps I should call D&W or gambino brothers though and see what they think

Any time you see black out of the exhaust, it's making soot. The black is soot. Keep it from pouring smoke and you're fine. Diesels have run without turbos for years while still smoking black from too much fuel and they've been fine. If you're really worried and can't keep your foot out of it, put the stock plate back in or at least slide yours all the way back, then slide the AFC all the way back and turn the starwheel away from the engine a whole bunch, at least until you can perform the tests on it you need to.

Believe me I'm getting sick of working on my truck too. I can't get it to shift right or at all with the new shift kit and adjustments to it mean pulling the pan off the trans and draining the fluid and even taking the valvebody out to change springs and valves. Not something I have fun doing in my driveway and it's not fun driving when it doesn't shift. The reward is after it's finally fixed right

Wow I feel better knowing I'm not the only one about to decimate my trucks soul. I called the local diesel shop, guy says he's fairly positive that its slipped timing. Said go easy on it and I'll make it there. $180 to fix it
