engine missing out
I have just installed 435hp injectors,4k gov springs and high flow delivery valves on a 96 cummins....the truck misses out at around 2700 rpm...What is causing this miss?
I am thinking the timing is the problem it is supose to be set at 16* but i have my doubts....figure around 20* would work well with this set-up.....the truck really runs great below those rpm's
I haven't checked it yet when the truck was bought it was suppose to be set at 16*...i feel that with the larger delivery valve and injectors that it was enough to retard the timing all in it's self...i think 20* should put it around 18*-19*
I don't know if this will help, I'm just doing a little research on the installation process myself. But, take a look at these installation instructions. (Of whatever brand of GSK kit this is, I don't know. And it's a 3K kit, but I don't think the results would be much different between the two.) Scroll down to number 21. It talks about what happens when the GSK springs are too tight or too lose.

If the engine will not idle and struggles to reach 3000 rpm, the nuts need to be tightened one or two clicks.
When properly adjusted, the engine will pull hard to about 2800 rpm before the governor now begins to pull back on fuel delivery and the idle will be smooth with a clean transition to higher engine speeds off idle. A touchy idle indicates that the nuts are too tight - adjust both nuts a click at a time until the idle and high end both seem reasonable. A setting of 0.030-0.040" will give you a soft pedal.
After installation, the idle should have only dropped or raised a little bit, if it raised or dropped a lot then the springs are too tight (idle raises) or too loose (idle drops). When you install the springs, tighten them till the very first click....it's light, then go 2 more clicks and try that. See were the idle is and go from there. You might have to put one more click on them but it just depends. If they are too tight you won't like it on cruise control
