Default Need Boost!?!?

I own a 95' 5 spd. 4x extended cab long box w/257,000 miles. It currently came w/a 100 plate and just straight 3". I put a TST boost elbow on it and just recently gauges.

Two issues.
1) I know a stock turbo should run around 18-20 psi. As of right now I can only hit 19 before havaing to back out of it due to EGT (issue 2). I was figuring with the boost elbow to reach at least a little bit more. To trouble shoot it I first pinched the line going to my wastegate and drove it...no difference. I then took off the line going to the wastegate and plugged the hole in the turbo. Still no difference at all. If I did that the turbo should have been making much more boost correct?

My Wastegate does have an adjustable arm on it that I haven't played with. I did unhook that and the gate moves very easily and freely and the plunger moves (very very stiffley?) Did this to ensure it wasn't stuck open. Could it be broke still and flopping around in there?

I don't believe I have any boost leaks anywhere also...

2) High EGT's. My starwheel is cranked up and the combination of the plate I was expecting kind of high EGT's. But I can peg my gauge at 1600 if I wanted to. It gets to 1400 before I'm even out of 4th. Normal/should I worry much right now or just watch the temps?

Any information, help or trouble-shooting tips would be greatly appreciated guys!!! I'm fresh outta ideas and don't want to go any further with mods until I get this under control for it might be pointless. Thanks.

one of your major problems is that restrictive 3 inch exhaust. that ole pig needs to breathe!!! you'll notice a huge difference if you replace it with a 4 inch system. might want to get yourself a different air intake too. the stocker isn't the most efficient... you can get a bhaf from napa for around 60 bucks or you can get a real cold air intake. those two things alone will help you alot. ur dumpin quite a bit of fuel n not gettin enough air and welcome to diesel bombers

Forgot about that...I do have a huge non-restrictive filter on it and as for the exhaust its next on the list when the dollars roll around. Thinking 4" downpipe and 5" out.

welcome to diesel bombers
u might want to back off on the star wheel, and see if that helps with the egts, but you shuld beable to get more boost than that b4 you peg the pyro, is the turbo in good condition? another thing check the smoke screw on the back off the afc, see if someone gutted the afc

you can build a downpipe to just get some pipe and a plow disc cut the outside for the bigger pipe and adapt to the smaller pipe not far from the turbo.
