put v/b and converter in it, will take care of two problems. Turbo will stop barking cause you will not have such a big rpm drop. Second, power will go to the ground and help move that trailer. T/C switch is not needed once a good converter is in there, maybe for braking

Yeah, I'm really not concerned about braking, hasn't been much of an issue. Well, not as much as pulling anyway.
I was only thinking about the lockup switch for in the meantime, since I'm having trouble finding an affordable TC.

the lock-up switch will decrease the life of whats left in your converter

How do u figure? Heat is one of the biggest problems I know of with autos and keeping the converter locked reduces heat. In fact a lockup switch can limp a rough converter along for years if used properly.

because there is so little friction material in a stock converter to start with. if it is already damaged -like it sounds- locking the truck into one of its highest 2 gears puts the most strain on the already weak clutch. its a death sentence. if it were mine i would leave it totally out of lock-up if it is slipping like it sound until the problem can be remidied. yes heat kills trannies and the converter is by far and away the main source of heat. and if the switch was used perfectly yes you could maybe salvage a few more miles out of it but if he is like the rest of the male race he has a short memory -that he gets yelled at for often- and will forget to flick the switch from time to time.

what gear starts slipping first in a manual tranny??? 1st or 5th!... stay out of the high gears if it is slipping

Wow, their single disc looks like a lot of converter for $400.
Thanks for the link, I just may go with them.

That single disc should be fine for you, get it as tight as possible. Then get a shift kit you need line pressure to make it all work I used trans-go (about $100) and you will be happy. I've put 50,000 hard miles on mine an no issues

Hold on (Manny) I think I didn't catch exactly what you said yesterday.
To clarify, the converter you got and are happy with didn't actually come from DieselPerformanceConverters.com, right?
