Really hate to hijack this with a survey question but....

What are thoughts on ARP vs A1 head studs???

I know the ARP's need machined rocker stands and the A1's need a little grinding on the covers, but are they at least comparable in strentgh? Any reason to go one way or the other? Any bad experience with either?

Again, sorry for the hijack, but the topic seemed to be going this way...

 

55psi with stocker head???? that will surely pop a top!!! got to be the HX35/40 that helped stretched them bolts.

 

yup stock head. it was actually the methanol that put it over the top. i had just got it all hooked up yesterday and took it out for a test drive, 1/2 mile later it was dumping ati-freeze everywhere. but man was it a fun 1/2 mile

Six in one and half a dozen in the other. I've been hearing of some WV boys running grade 10 allen bolts in there pullers and having great luck, 80 bucks a set.

 

yeah, ive heard about people running those also. i would love to do it because of the price but im just a little nervouse about it

 

I bought the A-1's for my truck (not installed yet), mainly because you didn't have to machine the pedestal. The guy I talked to at Pure Diesel Power told me they are comparable in strength, and in fact A-1 came out with the studs for our trucks before ARP did.

 

Arp has great customer service, warranty, There are local guys here running just a heavy bolt. Remember when you get your ARP's that they can only recommend a torque for them, use your own judgment, but I know for a fact that the rec. was not enough for my truck, now I've got them tighter. By the way, You should at least o-ring your head or block before you waste your time putting this back together, or you will just be doing it again.

 

ive heard stories on all but ive run arps in everything my race car my diesel ect cant go wrong

 

I've never had an ARP bolt or stud fail and they are all through my drag car....so I went with ARP for the truck too. I agree with Stumpman about the O-rings....

 

DO NOT over torque them. On the standard 12mm studs anything more than 125lbs and you are asking to break a stud off in the block. If you feel that you need them tighter than that, go with H-11 studs.
